GH Switchgear Technical Team Visits East China Chemical Plant Site — Power Distribution Upgrade Solution Confirmed

May 26, 2026 Leave a message

Yesterday, on May 25, 2026, the GH Switchgear technical team conducted an on-site consultation at a chemical manufacturing enterprise in East China, working directly with the client's electrical engineering team to develop a complete power distribution upgrade solution for their production facility. The visit has resulted in a confirmed cooperation agreement covering dry-type transformers, high-voltage switchgear, and low-voltage distribution cabinets.

Project Background: Capacity Expansion Driving Distribution System Upgrade

The client operates a continuous chemical production line with multiple motor-driven loads. Following a planned capacity expansion, the existing power distribution infrastructure was no longer adequate to meet the facility's growing demand. The project required a complete upgrade of the incoming power supply system - from high-voltage reception through to low-voltage distribution - within the constraints of the existing switchroom space.

The GH technical team was invited to assess the site conditions, review the client's load data and single-line diagram, and propose a coordinated equipment solution that would meet both the immediate capacity requirement and the facility's long-term operational reliability needs.

Solution Overview: Integrated High and Low Voltage Distribution System

Following the site assessment and load analysis, the GH team proposed the following integrated solution:

The XGN66-12 series was selected as the incoming high-voltage switchgear for this project. Rated at 3–10kV and designed for indoor installation, the XGN66-12 provides a compact, reliable metal-enclosed switchgear solution well-suited to the space constraints of an in-building chemical plant switchroom. Its fixed-type construction, combined with ZN28A-12 vacuum circuit breakers and CD10/CD17A electromagnetic operating mechanisms, delivers the switching and protection performance required for a motor-heavy chemical production load without the additional mechanical complexity of a withdrawable design.

The XGN66-12's five-prevention mechanical interlock system - preventing operations including energised earthing, closing onto a grounded circuit, and cabinet door access during live conditions - addresses the heightened safety requirements of a chemical plant environment where personnel protection is a primary concern. The cabinet's IP2X indoor protection level and single-busbar configuration are matched to the controlled environment of the dedicated switchroom.

  • Power Transformer - 1000 kVA Dry-Type Transformer

A 1000 kVA dry-type transformer was specified for the step-down function between the incoming 10kV supply and the 0.4kV low-voltage distribution system. The dry-type configuration was selected in preference to an oil-filled unit for this application due to the fire safety requirements applicable to indoor installation within a chemical manufacturing facility. Dry-type transformers eliminate the risk of oil leakage and combustion, making them the industry-standard choice for indoor chemical plant substations.

The 1000 kVA rating was determined by the client's expanded load calculation, accounting for the motor-drive loads on the production line with appropriate demand factor and future growth allowance.

  • Low-Voltage Distribution - GGD Fixed Low-Voltage Switchgear

The GGD series low-voltage distribution cabinet was specified for the 0.4kV distribution side, providing motor control, feeder protection, and measurement functions for the production line loads. The GGD's robust fixed construction and high short-circuit withstand capacity are well-matched to the demanding duty cycle of continuous chemical production with frequent motor starting operations.

On-Site Coordination: From Load Data to Equipment Layout

A key element of the site visit was the coordination between the GH technical team and the client's electrical engineers on the physical layout and installation sequencing of the upgrade. For a capacity expansion project within an operating facility, the installation must be planned to minimise disruption to production - particularly important in a chemical plant environment where process continuity and personnel safety are both critical constraints.

The team reviewed the existing cable routes, earthing system, and structural clearances within the switchroom, confirming that the proposed XGN66-12, transformer, and GGD configuration could be accommodated within the available space while meeting the ventilation, maintenance access, and safety clearance requirements specified in the applicable standards.

Project Confirmation and Next Steps

Following the site consultation, the client confirmed their intention to proceed with the GH Switchgear supply package. The confirmed scope covers the XGN66-12 high-voltage switchgear, the 1000 kVA dry-type transformer, and GGD low-voltage distribution cabinets, with GH providing full technical documentation including single-line diagrams, equipment layout drawings, and installation guidelines.

The project represents GH Switchgear's continued engagement with the chemical industry sector, where the combination of reliable high-voltage switching equipment, fire-safe transformer technology, and robust low-voltage distribution forms the core of safe and efficient power distribution for continuous process manufacturing.

GH Switchgear provides complete power distribution solutions covering high-voltage switchgear, dry-type and oil-immersed transformers, and low-voltage distribution equipment.
